The finite state machine is a monthly music series in Montreal Canada, producing low-key, electronic music events with a focus on experimentation and active listening. Unless it conflicts with a performance, the venue is kept dark during the sets. People are expected to show up early, eat, drink, and hangout, then settle down quietly for the performance. The venue is in the back room of a cafe, and the audience must order food to purchase alcohol. The price of these events is purposefully very cheap, and no one is turned anyone away if they can’t afford a ticket.
