the waters of lethe

the waters of lethe
hidden fingers soothing memory
something you can’t see
whispers soft and makes everything still

the waters of lethe
rising fast and passing far beneath
subterranean seas
decomposing anything we’ve built

solstice

watching all the seasons die
it’s september already
time to travel inwards

watching all the seasons die
we are all walking a tightrope closer
to the end of our lives

another year older

.

the days will lengthen and the light will come
if i can make it through the night
the days will lengthen and the light will come
after midwinter’s long night

the stars hang heavy in the black-framed sky
trying to tear their way through to the light
the days will lengthen and the light will come
if i can make it through the night

one king will kill the other
from winter into summer

if i can just play dead through the darkness
without any blood spilled
on the things i’ve built
if i can just play dead

carnival lights

if it was broken but you couldn’t fix it
and like a carnival you couldn’t look away
and the streets unraveled by their seams
in the cold and fragile light
and the sharpness of your teeth, was unbearable

the world is very kind, they say
the world is very kind

shimmer and dissolve

take these angles of my hips
construct a sacred place
there are secrets in the wildest things
and in the empty spaces

in between each crafted body part
the tangled sinews of my heart
where body isn’t spirit starts
to fill the empty space
