Stepping Stone / July 5, 2018 / Christine
Normally there are 3 types of base material used depending on the use of the stone. Regular concrete is used most often when a stone is actually part of a pathway and decorations such as small mosaic tiles or colored stones are used for visual effect. Stepping stone concrete is used when a more intricate pattern (or 3d effect from a mold) is used. It is finer grained so there is less likely to be an air pocket in a detailed area. Finally there is plaster of paris; it is VERY fine grained and will hold the best detail of all; but lacks the strength necessary to hold up under harsh weather or traffic conditions. Garden stepping stones of this material should be ornamental only and in an area protected from weather and harsh temperatures.
You cannot do this with ones made of cement as they are usually permanently installed on the ground. With the rubbers you can arrange the space between one to another based on the length of your kids steps. When they have grown up and the steps become longer you can rearrange this. Rubber stepping stones also come in many models and colors. The diameter is usually about 30 centimeters or more and the thickness is about 3 cm. Each package usually contains of three pieces so you can freely decide how you will arrange the stones. With your own creativity you can combine several patterns to get more dynamic look. Then see your guests like it.
Would you like to build a path in your garden but dont want to rent a compactor or fuss too much with levels? Are you looking for a walkway thats attractive and durable? Why not try a pea gravel walkway with stepping stones? Its quick relatively easy to install and looks great. Another advantage of this type of path is that its quick and easy to change as well. If you want to change the way the stones are laid out or install new stones to change the look completely it can be done in an afternoon.
